In an announcement posted to the district's website just before 9:20 a.m., district officials said they were notified by Spring Township police "that there was a shooting at Wilson High School."
Township police and state troopers responded to the scene. Wilson High and Whitfield Elementary School were placed on lockdown as authorities swept the grounds, the district said.
After a preliminary sweep and a second, more thorough search, police notified the district that there was no ongoing threat, administrators said.
"Due to the significant presence of police on our High School Campus, the need to continue the investigation, and the emotional impact on our kids and staff, we will dismiss all high school students beginning at 10 a.m.," they announced.
A large police presence was onsite as high school students were dismissed Friday morning, according to the district. Whitfield Elementary students were kept on campus and will dismiss at the normal time, they added.
"No victims or shooters have been located," Spring Township Police Department said in a statement. "Law Enforcement will remain at the school until all students have left the buildings."
